About the AOOD Training:
Developed by SAMHSA’s former Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) and adapted for Texas, our Addressing Opioid Overdose (AOOD) training provides participants with an opportunity to explore the role Texas prevention providers play in preventing opioid use disorders (OUD), and the resulting consequences. Throughout AOOD, participants explore practical information and guidance, engage in both small- and large-group discussions of key concepts, and identify action steps to facilitate future application. Interactive activities and discussions help participants become familiar with the factors that put individuals at increased risk for opioid overdose and describe the strategies for preventing opioid overdose and death in the event of an overdose

Requirements:
This AOOD is virtual, occurring live over Zoom. It will take place over 2 days. Participants are expected to fully engage in the training, which calls for reliable internet connection and use of a webcam. Participants do not need a Zoom account to attend the training – you may attend through any internet browser option if you do not want to download the app. All participants are required to join on camera and expected to fully engage in the training to be eligible to receive a Continuing Education (CE) certificate upon completion.

Continuing Education Hours: 6.5* (over 2 days)
Satisfactory completion of continuing education hours (CEHs) requires attending at least 85% of the training duration, participating in activities (e.g., polls, breakout rooms), and completing the training evaluation.

Brent Blackburn, CPS

Brent Blackburn is a Certified Prevention Specialist that has over 30 years of experience in alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention, youth leadership and youth/adult partnerships. Brent’s experience comes from working with communities in every corner of the nation - from small local groups to state and national organizations. Brent enjoys training on a variety of topics and with diverse audiences. Brent’s style helps to make each training an interactive and hands on learning adventure, with practical strategies for learners to implement in their work. Brent currently serves as the Executive Director of Extreme Youth Leadership working to create connections in the community that will reduce substance abuse and engage young people in partnership with adults, to solve local problems. Brent is a proud husband and father, who enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Misty and their son Joseph.

Kendra Tapie, M.Ed, ACPS

Kendra Tapie has dedicated herself to Prevention since 2007 and is the Region Director for Serenity House Impact Youth Prevention Program. She served for 5 years as the Chair for the Taylor Alliance for Prevention Coalition in Abilene, Texas that worked with the community to address environmental strategies. She is passionate about training and using her experience to equip, refresh and encourage others to be more effective in the Prevention field. She obtained a degree in Public Speaking and ME.d in Counseling and Human Development. She is an Advanced Certified Prevention Specialist.
