Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.

In this module participants begin the training by exploring social determinants of health, multiculturalism, positionality, cultural humility, implicit bias that contribute to cultural appropriate service delivery. Participants will explore important considerations about what may influence our ability to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate prevention services.

In this module participants will review basic communication concepts, explore this specific cross-cutting competency, and be introduced to spotlighted concepts that may influence the messaging of prevention services. This training is intended for substance use prevention professionals in Texas.

This module will look in depth at the definitions and review how effective prevention focusing on reducing risk factors, and strengthening protective factors can reduce a person’s chance of developing a mental and/or substance use disorder. The SPF: Application for Prevention Success Training (SAPST) is a foundational course of study in substance abuse prevention. This 2023 version was created through a collaborative effort of SAMHSA’s regional Prevention Technology Transfer Centers (PTTCs) and National Coordinating Office.​ It is for entry-level prevention practitioners working in states, jurisdictions, tribes and communities who have been in the field of prevention for at least 1 year.
