This training is intended for substance use prevention professionals in Texas funded to implement the Guiding Good Choices curriculum.
About this Guiding Good Choices Curriculum Training:
This training prepares participants to lead Guiding Good Choices workshops in their community (both in-person delivery and virtual delivery). Participants will learn how the curriculum supports families by providing information and teaching skills that help caregivers promote family bonding through use of Social Development Strategy.
The training will cover:
- Keys to success for preventative parenting programs
- Facilitation skills
- Social Development Strategy
- Risk and protective factor-focused prevention
- How to handle difficult questions
- Empowering parents and caregivers to make their own decisions
Throughout the sessions participants will experience various approaches to learning including direct instruction, role-playing, and reflective dialogue. This 19-hour virtual training is delivered over one week (see detailed schedule below).
The training is interactive with the expectation that participants attend via a computer (not a mobile device) with a camera and microphone, remain on camera and actively participate during the training, be prepared for each session by completing assigned reading preparing presentations. Each participant must have an active license prior to the first day of training in order to access the curriculum materials. Licenses can be purchased at CoMotion.

*Please note that there is a 1-hour lunch break Monday-Thursday. There will not be a lunch break on Friday. Please plan accordingly
Continuing Education Hours: 19.0*
Satisfactory completion of continuing education hours (CEHs) requires attending at least 85% of the training duration, participating in activities (e.g., polls, breakout rooms), and completing the training evaluation.
Requirements:
This mindfulness training is virtual, occurring live over Zoom. All participants are expected to fully engage in the training, which calls for reliable internet connection and use of a webcam. All participants are encouraged to join on camera and expected to fully engage in the training to be eligible to receive a Continuing Education (CE) certificate upon completion.
Registration:
This training is limited to 18 participants. Registration priority will be given to Texas HHSC funded substance use prevention providers funded to implement the Learning to BREATHE curriculum.
