This training is intended for Youth Prevention (YP) program providers who are approved by Texas HHSC to implement Life Skills curricula. In addition, this training is intended for prevention providers who will implement the LifeSkills Training (LST) High School curricula.
Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) workshops are specifically designed to prepare program providers to effectively implement the prevention education activities and teaching strategies found in the LST program. This will occur in the following virtual format: Registered participants will be given 5 days to complete online self-paced training modules (7-8 hours). Instructions to begin will be sent via email on or before the first day of training.
Learning Objectives
- Review the background theory, research and rationale behind the LST program
- Familiarize participants with the LifeSkills curriculum
- Teach participants the skills needed to successfully conduct the LST program
- Discuss practical implementation challenges
- Provide an opportunity to participate in model lessons and practice teaching selected portions of the LST curriculum.
Continuing Education Hours: 7.0* Satisfactory completion of continuing education hours (CEHs) requires attending at least 85% of the training duration, participating in activities and completing the training evaluation.
Know Before You Go Each participant MUST have their LST Teacher’s Manual and Student Guide on hand during the training. Participants will be working directly with the materials to develop familiarity and comfort, so it is important that participants have access to their own copies throughout the workshop.
Registration This training is limited to 10 participants. Registration priority will be given to YP program staff members who have never completed an official Botvin Life Skills Curriculum Training. All other individuals who submit a registration will be added to a waitlist and will receive an email notification if a spot becomes available for them to attend the training.
