The LOSS Team Training equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to implement or strengthen a LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team in their community. LOSS Teams are made up of trained first responders and suicide loss survivors who offer immediate support and resources to individuals recently bereaved by suicide. This evidence-informed, postvention model is designed to reduce the risk of suicide contagion, support survivors in the early stages of grief, and connect them to appropriate services.
Through interactive discussions, case scenarios, and best practices, participants will learn how to:
-
Understand the impact of suicide loss on survivors
-
Develop or enhance a community-based LOSS Team
-
Coordinate with law enforcement, EMS, and coroners
-
Provide compassionate, trauma-informed outreach
-
Engage in ethical storytelling and survivor support
-
Build sustainable postvention efforts within existing suicide prevention frameworks
This training is ideal for mental health professionals, first responders, peer support specialists, crisis center staff, community coalition members, and suicide loss survivors interested in postvention work.
