This training is intended for substance use prevention professionals in Texas.

Description This module provides an overview of SAMSHA’s Communication domain and the knowledge/skills/abilities within the work of a prevention professional. In this module participants will review basic communication concepts, explore this specific cross-cutting competency, and be introduced to spotlighted concepts that may influence the messaging of prevention services.

Continuing Education Hours: 3.0* 
Satisfactory completion of continuing education hours (CEHs) requires attending at least 85% of the training duration, participating in activities (e.g., polls, breakout rooms), and completing the training evaluation.

Requirements
This PST is virtual, occurring live over Zoom. All participants are required to join on camera and expected to fully engage in the training to be eligible to receive a Continuing Education (CE) certificate upon completion.

Micaela Landeros, MS, CPS

Micaela Landeros is a Certified Prevention Specialist with eight years of experience in community engagement, mobilization, and prevention work with an emphasis in rural communities. Her undergraduate degree is in Communication Studies and holds a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership. Micaela has most recently served as a Program Director for Youth Prevention Programs in the Coastal Bend area of Texas at an emerging Federally Qualified Health Center, the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation. Micaela’s additional experience includes serving as a contracted trainer for the prevention field, serving as an alumnae advisor for a community service organization that focus on philanthropic efforts throughout South Texas, and volunteering with local non-profits with special project proposals presentations.
